Feds get their first 3 points of the new year after a strong 3-1 performance against West Bromwich Albion

After a dominant performance, Liverpool Feds picked up three precious points against West Bromwich Albion at the Valley Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Feds started off strong pinning Albion in during the opening exchanges. First Thompson, with some good work down the right wing, delivered a dangerous cross that was cleared well. Then Fletcher’s free kick was nearly poked home by Johnson at the back post, calling the West Bromwich Albion keeper to a great save to keep it level.

Shortly afterwards and with only six minutes on the clock, Anderson’s corner was only half cleared with Deering smashing it home from 6 yards out, handing the lead to the visitors.

Feds pressure on Albion kept increasing with intricate play between Thompson, Anderson and Francis releasing the latter in behind. However, immediately after, Anderson doubled the lead for the away team firing a cross/shot into the roof of the net.

Willis slid Anderson through, but the Albion keeper claimed the ball a fraction before Anderson could get her toe to it.

Albion’s first chance of the game came after 37 minutes of play and from a second phase of a corner, with the cross from the right turning just over the bar.

As half-time approached, Thompson was hacked down on the right winning a free kick for the visitors. Fletcher took the set-piece herself, and an excellent cross was met by Willis, who powered a header home from close range, giving the Feds a 3-0 lead up at the break.

Just after two minutes into the second half, Albion were awarded a penalty as Ellie May run was halted. She cooly dispatched her penalty, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Feds responded soon after with Parry firing from the edge of the area. It looked like it was going to bend in the top corner, but the keeper got a hand to it, denying the midfielder her first goal of the season.

Albion started gaining control of the game, Ella Haughey drove a low shot from distance and nearly wrong footed Norney who recovered to smother on the line.

In the closing stage of the clash, Anderson’s flick round the corner gave Willis the opportunity to whip it in. The cross was agonisingly close to Donoghue’s head, but it flew to safety.

West Bromwich Albion fell to defeat in Redditch, with the visitors winning their first away match of the new year. Liverpool Feds will now face Stourbridge next Sunday at Jericho Lane.
